Jaecoo J5 EV And iCAUR V23 Spotted Testing In India Ahead Of Future Launches

JSW Motors appears to be accelerating its plans for the Indian automobile market as multiple electric SUVs from Chinese auto giant Chery have now been spotted testing together on Indian roads. The recently sighted test vehicles include the Jaecoo J5 EV and the iCAUR V23, both expected to form part of JSW Motors’ future product portfolio.

The company is reportedly preparing to enter the Indian market with rebadged and locally adapted versions of global Chery group vehicles under a new strategy focused on SUVs and electric mobility.

JSW Motors Expanding Beyond Its First SUV

While JSW Motors is expected to introduce its first SUV in India during 2026, the company has already started testing additional products planned for launch in 2027 and beyond.

Recent spy shots reveal four test vehicles undergoing evaluation in India. Two of them appear to be based on the Jaecoo J5 EV while the remaining prototypes resemble the iCAUR V23 electric SUV.

Reports suggest the brand’s second product could arrive in early 2027 and may target the growing midsize electric SUV segment.

Jaecoo J5 EV Could Rival Creta EV

The Jaecoo J5 EV is expected to become a premium electric SUV positioned in the Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh price range.

Internationally, the SUV measures:

  • 4,380 mm in length
  • 1,860 mm in width
  • 1,650 mm in height
  • 2,620 mm wheelbase

The SUV features a modern design with styling elements similar to premium global SUVs.

Key international features include:

  • 18 inch alloy wheels
  • Large 13.2 inch portrait touchscreen
  • Panoramic glass roof
  • Dual zone climate control
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Advanced driver assistance systems

The electric SUV is powered by a front mounted motor producing 208 hp and 288 Nm torque. Depending on the variant, it gets battery packs offering a claimed driving range of over 400 km.

Once launched in India, it could compete against models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti e Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella.

iCAUR V23 Brings Rugged Electric SUV Styling

The second SUV spotted during testing was the iCAUR V23, a more rugged and off road focused electric SUV.

Dimension details include:

  • 4,220 mm length
  • 1,915 mm width
  • 1,845 mm height
  • 2,735 mm wheelbase

Despite being shorter than the Jaecoo J5 EV, the V23 offers a longer wheelbase and a more upright SUV design.

Globally, the model is available in multiple configurations including:

  • Single motor rear wheel drive
  • Larger battery rear wheel drive version
  • Dual motor all wheel drive variant

The top specification model produces up to 208 hp and 292 Nm torque.

Depending on the battery pack and drivetrain setup, the SUV offers a claimed range between 400 km and 550 km.

India Launch Expected By 2027

JSW Motors is expected to adapt these vehicles specifically for Indian conditions before launch. The Jaecoo J5 EV could arrive first, followed by the iCAUR V23 during the second half of 2027.

The company appears to be targeting both urban EV buyers and customers looking for more rugged lifestyle SUVs.

Final Thoughts

The arrival of Jaecoo and iCAUR based SUVs could add fresh competition to India’s rapidly growing electric SUV market. With modern styling, premium interiors and competitive range figures, these upcoming models may help JSW Motors establish itself as a serious player in the EV segment.

As testing activity increases, more details regarding specifications, localisation plans and launch timelines are expected to emerge in the coming months.
