Hero MotoCorp has finally entered the premium motorcycle segment with the Mavrick 440, a 440cc single-cylinder roadster developed in partnership with Harley-Davidson. This marks Hero's most ambitious two-wheeler project yet, targeting Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Jawa buyers with modern engineering and competitive pricing.
Design and Styling
The Mavrick 440 blends neo-retro styling with modern elements. The round LED headlamp, teardrop fuel tank, and sculpted side panels give it a muscular roadster stance. The single-piece seat, bar-end mirrors, and dual-tone paint schemes add premium appeal. At 2,100 mm length and 800 mm seat height, it is accessible to most Indian riders.
Engine and Performance
Powering the Mavrick is a 440cc single-cylinder, air-oil cooled engine producing 27 PS at 6,000 rpm and 36 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The long-stroke motor is tuned for low-end torque, making it ideal for city riding and highway cruising. A 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch ensures smooth shifts and prevents rear-wheel lockdown during aggressive downshifts.
Features and Technology
The Mavrick 440 gets a round TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and call alerts. LED lighting is standard all around, including the distinctive H-shaped LED tail lamp. Dual-channel ABS, traction control, and ride-by-wire throttle are segment-first features from Hero.
Chassis and Suspension
The motorcycle uses a diamond-type frame with a 43 mm telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers. The 17-inch alloy wheels wear 110/70 front and 150/60 rear tubeless tyres. Braking duties are handled by a 320 mm front disc and 240 mm rear disc, both with ByBre calipers.
Pricing and Rivals
Hero has priced the Mavrick 440 at Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom), undercutting the Royal Enfield Classic 350 by about Rs 30,000. It competes directly with the Jawa 42, Yezdi Roadster, and Honda Hness CB350 in the premium 350-450cc segment.
Verdict
The Hero Mavrick 440 is a confident step into premium motorcycling. With Harley-Davidson engineering influence, modern features, and aggressive pricing, it offers genuine value. Whether it can shake Royal Enfield's dominance depends on Hero's ability to build desirability around the brand.
