Hyundai has taken India's best-selling compact SUV and given it a serious dose of sportiness. The Hyundai Creta N Line brings racing-inspired design, a turbocharged petrol engine, and exclusive N Line badging to a segment that rarely sees such aggression. But does it drive as sporty as it looks? We find out.
Design and Styling
The Creta N Line stands out with its dark chrome grille, dual-tone black roof, red brake calipers, and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The front bumper gets a sportier design with larger air intakes, while the rear features a twin-tip exhaust and a subtle roof spoiler. N Line badges on the fenders and steering wheel remind you this is no ordinary Creta.
Interior and Features
Inside, the cabin gets all-black treatment with red contrast stitching on the leather seats and steering wheel. The 10.25-inch touchscreen remains but now features N Line-specific graphics. You still get ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, Bose sound system, and Hyundai's connected car tech. The flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters adds to the sporty feel.
Engine and Performance
Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged GDi petrol engine producing 160 PS and 253 Nm of torque. This is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The N Line hits 0-100 km/h in approximately 8.9 seconds, making it one of the quickest compact SUVs in India. The exhaust note is artificially enhanced for a sportier soundtrack.
Driving Dynamics
Hyundai has stiffened the suspension and added quicker steering for the N Line. Body roll is better controlled than the standard Creta, and the DCT offers crisp shifts in Sport mode. However, the ride quality is noticeably firmer over bad roads. The brakes feel stronger thanks to larger discs and those red calipers are not just for show.
Pricing and Variants
The Creta N Line is priced from Rs 16.82 lakh to Rs 20.45 lakh (ex-showroom), commanding a premium of around Rs 1.5-2 lakh over equivalent standard Creta variants. It is available in two trims: N Line and N Line Dual Tone.
Verdict
The Hyundai Creta N Line successfully adds excitement to the Creta formula. It looks aggressive, drives quicker, and offers exclusivity in a crowded segment. If you want a sporty compact SUV and can live with the firmer ride, the N Line justifies its premium. For pure practicality, the standard Creta remains the smarter buy.
